Dimensions
A (Pz Centre): 3.346 inches (85mm)
B (Screw holes): 8.07 inches (205 mm)
C (Depth of the Backplate ): 0.196 inches (5 mm)
D (Backplate Width): 1.77 inches (45 mm)
E (Full Length of the Backplate): 8.858 inches (225 mm)
F (Projection): 1.77 inches (45 mm)
Here are the crucial dimensions you should take into consideration when purchasing a lever door handle to ensure you have the right one.
Dimension A: PZ Measurement
The initial measurement is the length from the handle's center to the keyhole's center. This is often referred to as the PZ measurement, which represents the midpoint of the handle spindle (the square rod that activates the latch) and the midpoint of the keyhole (or cylinder).
Dimension B: Screw hole positioning
This measurement is taken from the center of the lower screw hole to the center of the upper screw hole. This design prevents any interference between the handle screws and the gearboxes of the lock upon installation.
Dimension C: Depth of the Backplate
This refers to how thick the backplate is when it extends outward from the door. It's important to take this measurement into account, especially if you plan on installing or replacing a cylinder. Ensuring the backplate's depth is appropriate will help prevent the cylinder from extending excessively beyond the edge of the handle backplate once everything is in place.
Dimension D: Backplate Width
This refers to the width of the handle's backplate. Certain applications might require a slimmer design to properly fit the profile section. Conversely, for replacement purposes, a broader width may be necessary to conceal any marks left by the previous handle.
Dimension E: Length of the Backplate
This dimension measures the total length of the handle's backplate. Handles with screw holes positioned at both the top and bottom of the backplate are typically classified as long backplate handles (LBP). Conversely, door handles that feature a screw hole beneath the handle lever or pad, along with another at the base of the backplate, are usually designated as short backplate handles (SBP).
Dimension E: Projection
The term "door lever projection" describes how far a lever handle protrudes from the surface of the door. In other words, it indicates the extent to which the handle extends away from the door. This measurement is typically determined by measuring from the face of the door to the furthest edge of the handle.
Dimension E: Length of the Lever
How can you identify whether you need a left or right hand door lever for the restroom, wc, bathroom?
Go to the push side of the door opening. If the door opens outward to the left, you will require a left hand door lever. Conversely, if it swings out to the right, a right hand door lever is necessary. Alternatively, observe the placement of the hinges; if they are located on the left side, a left hand lever is needed. If the hinges are on the right side, then a right hand lever is appropriate.
Decorative Fixed Arm / Non-working Door Levers often referred to as dummy levers are typically used in situations where the lever is needed only as a pull handle and does not operate a latch. These are surface-mounted (not drilled through the door). Can be mounted individually on one side or mirrored on both sides of a door for looks.
Here are common places you can use them:
Double Doors (Inactive Side)
On French doors, the inactive door often doesn’t have a latch or internal mechanism.
The dummy lever is used purely for symmetry and to pull or push the door when needed.
Closets or Pantry Doors
Where you don’t need a latch to keep the door closed, especially when using magnetic catches or ball catches.
Dummy levers provide a grip to open the door but don't turn or engage any latch.
Hallway or Decorative Doors
Sometimes used on interior passageways that don’t require a functioning latch but need to match other door hardware for aesthetic consistency.
Cabinet or Utility Doors (Full-Size)
On full-sized cabinet doors or access panels where appearance matters, and a pull handle is desired instead of a knob or utilitarian pull.
Barn Doors (Side-Mounted Levers)
If you want a more elegant or consistent look, you can mount a dummy lever on a sliding barn door to mimic the look of traditional levers.
